The GATE exam consists of 65 questions with 10 general aptitude questions carrying 15 marks and the rest of the questions are technical based on the stream chosen. There are questions having 1 marks and 2 marks and each wrong answer have negative marks 1/3 and 2/3 respectively. If a student is able to correctly answer around 50% of the questions, he would stand a chance of getting in the top ranks. So time does not become a constraint in this exam and the student can take 3 to 4 minutes for a 1 mark question and even up to 10 minutes for a 2 mark question if he thinks he can answer it correctly.
